Windier today enough for 4.7s so I picked the Evo 70 for a trip to the harbour wall. Not a great choice - despite feeling very big and being well powered up it was an absolute dog upwind and took ages to get there and 4 tacks compared with only one on the Exocet on Monday. Once I had finally arrived after such a slog I was keen to snag a wave first run in. There wasn't much on offer but a small musher popped up close to the shore so I wiggled one turn on it and...crunch! Off I fell into only shin high water to see the fin hanging limply off the back of the board...doh...

So...a painful scramble over the harbour wall rocks, a long walk through town to the OTC to pick up a replacement fin, then back to my kit and a slightly hairy re-launch off the harbour wall past the fishermen and back into the action. There the waves had really started to ramp up to head high+ but my muppet port-tack wave riding combined with fatigue from the fin changing exertions meant I could do very little with them ho hum.

After another long lunch at Cafe M (big smoked salmon bagel washed down with muchos fresh orange all for under a fiver...mmmm...) we went for high tide session 2 in the south bay. To our surprise the waves were looking really good waist-chest high clean and plentiful. This in combination with 4.7 full power resulted in one of the best sails I've had in a long time. I really started to get the hang of the evil tack wavesailing and scored loads of rides, big jumps and also a fair few crashes and rinsings. Board of the day was the RRD WaveCult - superb in every sense. Sailing was cut short when I bust my harness line webbing resulting in a lost spreader bar but probably wasn't a bad idea to quit whilst I was ahead. The quality of session 2 would normally result in a solid 4 stars but great conditions combined with all that shiny new kit to try under blazing hot sunshine meant I was absolutely loving it out there so hold-the-back-page ding dong 5 stars it gets! :)
